ITINERARY
Day 1: Friday, August 1   Departure

Our afternoon departure will be from Lancaster County (exact location and time will be determined.) for our overnight flight to Frankfurt, Germany. (Meals in flight)

Day 2: Saturday, August 2   Frankfurt, Germany – Marburg

We have a morning arrival in Frankfurt. Upon arrival in Frankfurt we journey to Marburg, and later enjoy a walking tour of the “old town.” Later in the afternoon we go to Schwarzenau, birthplace of the Church of the Brethren. Our afternoon and evening activities as directed by the Anniversary celebration program. (D)

Day 3: Sunday, August 3   Schwarzenau

We return to Schwarzenau for the Anniversary Celebration scheduled for this day. We arrive early for a united prayer service beside the Eder River, then join in the activities of the day. We return to Marburg for the night. (B, L)

Day 4: Monday, August 4   Schwarzenau – Worms

Today we have a late morning departure from the village of Schwarzenau. Following lunch, we drive to the Rhine River where we board a boat for a Rhine River cruise between St.Goarshausen and Ruedesheim, where the scenery is ideally European, sailing past lovely hills with countless vineyards and picturesque ruins of old medieval castles. After the cruise we continue by coach to Worms, the city where Martin Luther in 1521, at the Diet of Worms, refused to recant his beliefs. Our overnight will be the town of Worms. (B,D)

Day 5: Tuesday, August 5   Heidelberg – Strasbourg

After breakfast, we will enjoy a morning tour of Worms. We see the cathedral, the Reformation monument, and other points of interest. Travelling south we visit the old University town of Heidelberg, It will be from the distinctive red sandstone castle ruins we will have great views of the town, and the Neckar River. We later drive to Strasbourg, located in the province of Alsace in France. Strasbourg was a free city of the Holy Roman Empire during the Middle Ages, a center of Renaissance life, and today is an important city in the European community. Our overnight is in Strasbourg, France. (B, D)

Day 6: Wednesday, August 6   Strasbourg

We have most of this day to enjoy the French village of Strasbourg. Included will be a guided tour of Strasbourg. We have some free time today. We then travel to Colmar, a picturesque Alsatian town in the Vosges Mountains. (B)

Day 7: Thursday, August 7   Strasbourg – Colmar – Lucerne

This morning we visit the monastery, now a museum with its world-famous altar-piece by Matthias Grunewald depicting the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. Leaving Colmar we will travel south crossing the border to Switzerland, and the city of Basel. In Basel we visit the cathedral, the town hall, and the prison tower where Andrew Boni, one of the original eight Brethren, to be baptized by Alexander Mack in 1708, was imprisoned. Later on to the resort town of Lucerne, located on the Lake of the Four Cantons. We overnight in Lucerne. (B, D)

Day 8: Friday, August 8   Lucerne

After breakfast we will have a guided walking tour of this lovely city, featuring the famous Chapel Bridge, the famous Lion Monument which commemorates the courage of the Swiss Guards, and the narrow streets with fascinating shops of the old town. Our afternoon will allow us free time to browse and shop in this charming city of Lucerne. In the evening, we are treated to a dinner and folklore show. Our lodging is in Lucerne. (B, D)

Day 9: Saturday, August 9   Lucerne – Liechtenstein – Oberammergau

Our scenic drive today will take us through the Swiss Alps region into the tiny principality of Liechtenstein, located between Switzerland and Austria, to the quaint village of Oberammergau located in Bavarian Germany. Our overnight lodging for two nights will be in Oberammergau.

Day 10: Sunday, August 10   Oberammergau

This beautiful German village is world renown for the famous Oberammergau Passion Play performed by the villagers every 10 years. We will tour the Passion Play theatre. The rest of the day we will be free to enjoy the village of Oberammergau . We have time to see woodcarvers at work in their shops. We will note the unusual half-timbered, decorated houses. Lunch and dinner will be on our own today. (B)

Day 11: Monday, August 11   Oberammergau – Munich

Following breakfast we leave Oberammergau for our drive through the Bavarian countryside. We will see the picturesque Church in the Meadow, and the breathtaking exterior view of Neuschwanstein Castle, built by the mad King Ludwig II. We visit Linderhof, a palace of Rococo style, also built by Ludwig II, surrounded by gardens and terraces inspired by the Italian Renaisance, and set in the midst of an English garden that is impressive and unique. We will continue on to Munich, the historic capital of Bavaria. This evening we have dinner at Hofbrauhaus. We overnight in Munich. (B, D)

Day 12: Tuesday, August 12   Munich

This morning we have a sightseeing tour of Munich, including a visit to Nymphenburg Palace—once the summer palace of the Bavarian sovereigns. We see the Olympic Village. We walk along the Marienplatz and see the town’s famous Glockenspiel. This evening we will enjoy dinner with a folklore show at the Hofbrauhaus. Our overnight is in Munich. (B, D)

Day 13: Wednesday, August 13   Munich – Rothenburg

Today we visit Dachau, the infamous World War II concentration camp. We then take the scenic drive along the Romantic Road, by way of quaint Nordlingen and Dinkelsbuhl arriving in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. We take a walking tour in the pedestrian- only area of this 16th century medieval town, surrounded by walls with towers, unusual gates, cobblestone streets, and fountains. Our last night will be in Rothenburg. (B, D)

Day 14: Thursday, August 14   Return Home

After breakfast, drive to the Frankfurt Airport for our return fl ight home. Our chartered motorcoach will be waiting to return us to Lancaster County. (B)
