Travel from Jerusalem to Caesarea; explore this Roman bridgehead to the East, which also became Christianity’s springboard to the West. Travel through the Carmel Range, past Megiddo, to Nazareth, the hometown of Jesus. Visit its spring and walk through the bazaar, over the site of the ancient village, to the Church of the Annunciation. Enjoy lunch at Fontana di Maria. Continue on to the Mount of Beatitudes and recall the Sermon on the Mount. Stop in Capernaum, located along the shores of the Galilee, and visit the synagogue and place where early Christians remember the location of Peter’s house. Finally, arrive at Yardenit on the Jordan River and its famous baptismal site. Return to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight at the Ritz Hotel.

Day 5: Fri, Jan 1   Jerusalem, The Old City

Happy New Year! We begin 2010 on the Mount of Olives! Walk down through the Jewish Cemetery, past the church of Dominus Flevit, to the Garden of Gethsemane and arrive at the Church of All Nations. Cross the Kidron Valley, then walk up to St. Stephen’s Gate to enter the Old City. We’ll pause just inside at the site of the former Sheep Gate. Visit the Pool of Bethesda and the Church of St. Anne.
