ITINERARY:
Saturday, August 23: Departure

Morning departure from Telford by private motorcoach to Philadelphia International Airport for an overnight fl ight to Venice, Italy.

Sunday, August 24: Venice, Italy

Upon our morning arrival in Venice we will be meet and transferred to our luxury-fl oating hotel, Holland America’s, ms Zuiderdam. This will be our accommodations for the next 12 nights. Venice is composed of 117 islands in the Venetian Lagoon, held together by a series of canals, and is like no other city in the world. Established more than 1,000 years ago by seafarers and Roman refugees; this magnificent city continues to be the heart of Italian culture, as well as a mecca for hopeless romantics. Probably the most famous site in Venice is St. Mark’s Basilica. Built to enshrine St. Mark’s body in the 9th century, it was rebuilt in the 11th century with a new, spectacular edifice. The interior is clad in wonderful mosaics and holds statues, icons, and its famous horses, brought to St. Mark’s after the 4th Crusade in 1204. While in Venice you will have the opportunity to take optional tours such as to Doge’s Palace and the showroom of Murano Glassware. Then glide through the canals on a gondola ride through some of Venice’s smaller, less trafficked canals. We are docked here overnight so you can enjoy Venice at night to stroll in the square, sit at a sidewalk café and sip cappuccino and listen to music from a small string ensemble. Remain docked overnight at Venice pier.
