to the airport for our overnight transatlantic flight to

Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Upon arrival at Amsterdam’s
Schiphol Airport
this morning, enjoy
a tour of historic Amsterdam,
capital city of the
Netherlands including a
windmill photo stop, the
city center, and a visit to
the Anne Frank house.
Check into your hotel,
with time to freshen up before dinner. a canal cruise through Amsterdam’s charming canals and
the city’s harbor. The facades of the 17th and 18th century
houses are floodlit to enhance their beauty. Overnight in

Sunday, July 18
Amsterdam
Enjoy an early morning drive through the Dutch
countryside. Drive through a picture-perfect landscape
crisscrossed with canals, see authentic wooden houses,
windmills and fishing villages, and witness traditional crafts
from days gone by. The picturesque village of Zaanse
Schans is famous for its original buildings, vividly capturing
Dutch life in the 17th and 18th centuries. You’ll see
the historic shipyard and windmills, and pay a visit to a
shoemaker who works with wood to watch his clog-making
techniques first-hand! Next, you’ll travel to the world famous
fishing villages of Volendam and Marken, on the
coast of the former Zuiderzee (now called Ijselmeer). The
old wooden houses here are built on stilts and locals still
wear their colorful traditional dress. Dinner and overnight

Monday, July 19
Amsterdam / Cologne / Marburg, Germany
Say good-bye to
The Netherlands this
morning, driving into
Germany for a stop
at Cologne to visit the
famous Cathedral, the
largest in Germany.
Its construction began
in 1248, and was
finished in 1880. The
huge building covers a
8,000 sq. m., towers stand 157 m tall.
The Dom houses some unique treasures like the remains
of the three Wisemen, along with beautiful stained glass
windows. Continue to Marburg by way of Schwarzenau,
the birthplace of the Church of the Brethren. End our day
with a walking tour of the Elizabeth Church, and the old
city. Dinner and overnight in Marburg. (B, D)
Tuesday, July 20
Marburg – Worms
Depart from Marburg this morning to board a boat
for a Rhine River cruise between St. Goarshausen and
Ruedesheim, where the scenery is ideally European, sail
past lovely hills with countless vineyards and picturesque
ruins of old medieval castles. Continue to Mainz to visit the
Gutenberg Museum of Printing, with the original Gutenberg
Bibles and historical workshop. Drive to Worms, where
Martin Luther appeared at the Imperial Diet before Kaiser
Karl V in 1521, refused to recant his religious beliefs, and
was declared an outlaw. Luther is reported to have said,
“Here I stand, I cannot do otherwise. God help me, Amen!”
See the Luther Monument, portraying the historical and
theological signifi cance of Martin Luther and the Reformation.
The interior of the Church of the Holy Trinity commemorates
the Reformation, and its chimes are played

Wednesday, July 21
Worms – Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Leave Worms after breakfast,
driving to Rothenburg ob der
Tauber, a charming medieval town
founded in 5 B.C. It has kept a typical
16th century look through strict
preservation orders since the 19th
century. A walking tour of Rothenburg
will introduce you to the Town
Hall and Market Square, St. Jacobs
Church with its Holy Blood Altar
by Tilman Riemenschneider, the
Castle and Monastery gardens and
St. Wolfgang Church. There will be
free time this afternoon to explore
Rothenburg on your own. You may wish and 14th century ramparts surrounding the town, visit the
Medieval Crime Museum or the Toy and Doll Museum, or
browse in one of the many quaint shops. Dinner and overnight
in Rothenburg. (B, D)
Thursday, July 22
Rothenburg – Lucerne
After breakfast we will board our motorcoach and bid
farewell to Germany. Travelling southwards, drive through
the Black Forest into Switzerland until we reach today’s ultimate
destination: Lucerne, located on the shores of Lake
Lucerne. Dinner and overnight in Lucerne. (B, D)
Friday, July 23
Lucerne
Begin with a morning
tour including the
Lion Monument. Walk
across the city’s chief
landmark, the 14th
century Chapel Bridge
and stroll to Weinmarkt
Square with its quaint
stone buildings and
is free for shopping.
Or you may wish to take an optional excursion to Mt. Pilatus
by steamer and cable car. In the evening, enjoy typical
Swiss dinner with folklore show. (B,D)
Saturday, July 24
Lucerne / Innsbruck / Oberammergau
Leave Lucerne in the morning and drive through the
tiny Principality of Liechtenstein. Continue our journey
via the Arlberg Pass to Innsbruck, the Tyrolean capital of
Austria and home of the Olympic Winter Games of 1964
and 1976. Discover 800 years of Imperial history on a tour
of Innsbruck, including the “Golden Roof,” the City Tower,
the Helblinghaus, St. Jacobs Cathedral, the Imperial
Palace and the Court Church, which are all within walking distance. Then proceed to the village of Oberammergau,
scene of the Passion Play. Dinner and overnight in Oberammergau.

Sunday, July 25
Oberammergau Passion Play
The history of
the Passion Play at
Oberammergau goes
back to 1634, when the
quaint alpine village
of Oberammergau
was threatened by
the deadly and contagious
disease known
as the Black Plague
Europe, two-thirds of the population
of Germany. The people of Oberammergau pledged to
perform the Passion Play as a sign of their repentance and
remorse over the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. The
chronicles relate that from the day the people gathered
around the cross to swear their sacred vow, no further person
died of the plague. Since that date, the play has been
performed every ten years.
Spend a morning at leisure in Oberammergau. Enjoy
the many houses beautifully painted with fairytale scenes
and the shops of excellent “Herrgottschnitzer” (woodcarvers
specializing in religious figures). The Passion Play
performance begins after lunch at 2:30 in the afternoon.
This Play is performed by local villagers—often roles are
handed down within families from generation to generation.
Dinner is included during a three-hour break in the
late afternoon from 5–8 pm, and the performance lasts
until 10:30. Overnight in Oberammergau. (B,L,D)

Oberammergau – Munich
Say farewell to Oberammergau this morning as we
depart for Munich, the capital of Bavaria. Pass the picturesque
Church in the Meadow of Wies, and see the breathtaking
exterior view of Neuschwanstein Castle, built by the
mad King Ludwig II, and made famous in this country by its
Walt Disney. Enjoy a walk through the traditional city center
and see the Church
of our Lady (Frauenkirche
Cathedral) and
Marienplatz, where we
can view the famous
Glockenspiel located
on top of the New Town
Hall. Visit the wonderful
open-air Viktualienmarkt
with stalls that
offer the freshest fruits
and vegetables in Munich, Schweinshax’n and Speck, seafood, delicious cheeses,
various herbs, and many other foods and crafts. Enjoy a
special dinner at the Ratskeller, a popular traditional beer
hall and restaurant located in the basement of the Rathaus
(Town Hall). Overnight in Munich. (B, D)
Tuesday, July 27
Return to U.S.
Transfer to the Munich Airport this morning for departure
on your transatlantic flight, returning to the East Coast
on the same day. Auf wiedersehen!
