back to 1634 when the

of Oberammergau
was threatened by the
deadly disease known
as the Black Plague
which scourged Europe,
killing two-thirds of the population Germany. of Oberammergau vowed that if the village was spared, a
re-enactment of the suffering and “passion” of Jesus Christ
would be performed. The village was miraculously saved
from the ravages of the Black Death. Since that date the
play has been performed every ten years.
We have a leisurely morning in Oberammergau. After
lunch we take our seats in the theatre to attend the performance
of the world-famous Passion Play. This play

its famous palace, Herrenchiemsee built by King Ludwig,
II, and reminiscent of the Versailles in France.

king who wished to save the trees and also build a sumptuous
