No doubt about it, winter travel can be bumpy! Holiday crowds, weather, normal travel stress...it's all there. Don't let these issues spoil your trip. Here are a few tips that will help smooth out those bumps and make your travels very special memories.
 
Be flexible - with your travel dates. Although, winter can bring some spectacular fare specials, seats are limited. The more flexible you can be in travel times, the more likely you are to cash in on the deals.
 
Package it - link your air and hotel, or car and hotel, or air and car. You get the idea; a bundle of travel services could cost less.
 
The early bird - gets the travel advantage! Flying early in the day and choosing warm-weather connection points, if possible, will help you avoid those dreaded delays.Should the worst happen, travel insurance will cover those unexpected trip delay expenses. Ask your travel professional about adding affordable travel insurance to your purchase.

Outside the box - going on vacation, but you haven't decided on your getaway location yet? Thinking outside the most common locations for winter travel (beaches, ski resorts) can net you an uncommonly great trip!  "Serve-cations" taken outside school break times can result in more economical and rewarding service trips for your family or group. Traditional business cities can be downright deserted on weekends, with short get-away deals to match; Chicago, San Francisco, or Seattle, for instance.
 
Professional packing - pack light, especially if you want to avoid checked luggage fees. Light layers of clothing pack well, and will be comfortable in all weather. True even if you are checking luggage.

Remember 3-1-1 if you are carrying on your luggage. Liquids and gels are limited to 3 ounces each, and must fit in a quart size zip bag. Keep this restriction in mind if you are taking supplies or medications with you, as well. You don't want to have to surrender those bottles of cough medicine.
